Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) - Metadata - What are the guidelines?

Question:
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) - Metadata - What are the guidelines?
Answer:

Search engines look for keywords in the page content, the URL, the title tag, and descriptions tag as it ranks websites against those of a company's competitors. Google uses a website's keywords and metadata to rank pages in their search listings.

In most instances, a page advertised on Google is usually to primary gateway to a company website, and is no different for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê½ÁÖéÖ±²¥. As part of our Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategy, we ultimately want to drive as much relevant traffic to our pages as possible; metadata and keywords help us to achieve this.

Therefore, we ask that you observe the following guidelines:

1) Content priority - Make sure you put the most important messaging/calls to action/keywords are on the very top of the page

2) Title - Make sure the title contains the keyword i.e. if the page is about the dos and don'ts of proofreading, create the title 'Proofreading guidelines' and not 'Guidelines on writing accurately'

3) Page Quality - The quality of the content you use is crucial, and one of the ways content is affected is how you use your keywords on a page. Avoid deliberately overloading your page with your keywords as Google will pick up on this.

4) Relevant metadata - Key in relevant metadata for that page. Add words that the typical person would type to arrive at your page. If your page is about proofreading, use words like accuracy, spellchecker, checking, double-checking etc.

Remember to put yourself in the mind of the person searching for your page (what would make it easier for you to find that particular page?).
